Hobbs & Shaw 2 (2025) – Bigger, Dumber, and Somehow Even More Fun

Director: David Leitch (returning)
Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Vanessa Kirby, Idris Elba, surprise A-lister cameo
Genre: Action/Comedy
Runtime: 128 minutes
Rating: ★★★½☆ (3.5/5 – “Logic left the building, but who cares?”)

The Unnecessary Sequel That Decides to Go Full Fast & Furious… in Space

Five years after Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019) gave us the buddy-cop spinoff nobody knew they wanted, the dynamic duo of Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) return in Hobbs & Shaw 2—a film that gleefully embraces absurdity, defies physics, and somehow manages to out-crazy its predecessor.

This time, the stakes are… well, they’re something. The plot? Barely relevant. The action? Absolutely unhinged. The one-liners? Relentless. Buckle up, because Hobbs & Shaw 2 is the cinematic equivalent of a WWE match on steroids—and it’s a blast.

Plot Summary (Spoiler-Free, If That Even Matters)

After the events of the first film, Hobbs and Shaw are reluctantly reunited when Hattie Shaw (Vanessa Kirby) is kidnapped by a rogue cyber-terrorist organization led by Kruger Frost (Idris Elba, again, because why not?), who has now upgraded himself with even more ridiculous tech enhancements. (Yes, he has laser fists this time.)

Their mission? Stop Frost from launching a satellite that can control every weaponized vehicle on Earth (because of course that’s a thing). The catch? The satellite is already in space, leading to a third act that somehow involves zero-gravity fistfights, a literal muscle-car space jump, and a surprise villain cameo that will either make you cheer or groan into your popcorn.

Along the way, Hobbs and Shaw bicker, punch things, and recruit a rogue A.I. voiced by Ryan Reynolds (because why not?) to help them save the world.

What Works

✅ Johnson & Statham’s Chemistry Is Still Gold

The Rock and Statham are clearly having the time of their lives, trading insults and sucker punches with the same macho charm that made the first film work. Their banter is sharper this time, with meta-jokes about franchise fatigue and their own egos.

✅ Vanessa Kirby Steals the Show (Again)

Hattie Shaw isn’t just a damsel in distress—she’s a full-blown action hero this time, delivering brutal fight scenes and snarky one-liners that rival her co-stars.

✅ Idris Elba as a Supervillain… Again, and It’s Glorious

Elba’s Frost was already over-the-top in the first movie, but here he’s dialed up to *11*—complete with nanotech upgrades, a personal army of cyborg henchmen, and a villain monologue so ridiculous it loops back to being awesome.

✅ The Action Is Next-Level Stupid (In the Best Way)

  • tank vs. helicopter chase through downtown Dubai.

  • freeway brawl where Hobbs uses a semi-truck as a baseball bat.

  • zero-gravity fight on a crashing space station (yes, really).
If you thought Fast 9’s space scene was nuts, wait until you see this.

✅ The Surprise Cameo Is Worth the Hype

No spoilers, but let’s just say a certain A-lister shows up in the third act, playing themselves, and it’s the most gloriously shameless moment in the film.

What Doesn’t Work

❌ The Plot Is Barely an Afterthought

If you’re looking for a coherent story, look elsewhere. The script is basically a series of excuses to get the characters from one insane set piece to the next.

❌ Too Many Subplots (That Go Nowhere)

A forced emotional backstory for Hobbs, a random detour with Shaw’s long-lost brother (played by a very confused Tom Hardy cameo), and an undercooked tech thriller angle all clutter the runtime.

❌ The Humor Doesn’t Always Land

Some jokes are too self-aware (yes, we get it, this franchise is ridiculous), and Ryan Reynolds’ A.I. bit gets old fast.

Final Verdict: Peak Dumb Fun

Hobbs & Shaw 2 is not a good movie by traditional standards. It’s absurdoverstuffed, and completely illogical. But damn if it isn’t a hell of a ride.

If you loved the first one, you’ll love this. If you hated it, this won’t change your mind. But if you’re just here to see The Rock punch a satellite, then welcome aboard.

Rating: ★★★½☆ (3.5/5) – “Turn your brain off and enjoy the chaos.”
Worth seeing? If you’re in the mood for a big, dumb, explosive good time, absolutely.

“This time, it’s personal…ly ridiculous.” – Hobbs & Shaw 2, probably.

What’s your take? Should this franchise keep going, or has it officially jumped the space shark? Sound off in the comments! 💥🚀
