Star Wars Episode X

As of now, “Star Wars: Episode X” has not been officially released or confirmed by Lucasfilm or Disney. The Skywalker Saga—Episodes I through IX—was concluded with Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, which wrapped up the main storyline centered on Anakin Skywalker, Luke, Leia, and Rey.

Star Wars Episode X: NEW JEDI ORDER – First Trailer | Lucasfilm

However, Lucasfilm has announced new upcoming Star Wars movies, including one that will continue Rey’s story after Episode IX. This has led many fans and media outlets to speculate that this could essentially serve as a “Star Wars Episode X,” even if it’s not officially numbered as such.

What We Know So Far About Rey’s Return (Potential “Episode X”):

  • Daisy Ridley is returning as Rey, and the story will be set about 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker.
  • The film will focus on Rey building a new Jedi Order, but also exploring the challenges of legacy, leadership, and rebuilding after war.
  • Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is confirmed as the director. She’s a two-time Academy Award-winning documentarian and will be the first woman and the first person of color to direct a Star Wars film.
  • The screenplay is being written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders).
  • The movie doesn’t yet have an official title or release date, but some sources expect it to release around 2026–2027.

Will It Be Titled “Episode X”?

Probably not. Lucasfilm seems to be moving away from numbered episodes for now. The upcoming film with Rey may not be marketed as “Episode X”, but functionally, it could act as a continuation of the main saga.

Other Star Wars Films in Development

In addition to the Rey-centered film, Lucasfilm has also announced other projects:

  • A prehistory film about the first Jedi, set thousands of years before the Skywalker Saga.
  • A film by Dave Filoni tying together the stories from The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and The Book of Boba Fett
